eeePC 900 with 'EasyPeasy' - and without Ubuntu Netbook Remix
The EasyPeasy GUI for Ubuntu on eeePCs conveniently contains WLAN and Webcam drivers etc., and the Netbook Remix graphical user interface. This interface is useful for surfing etc., but for working on the road it has its limits. How to remove the Netbook Remix interface and return to Ubuntu Gnome? Like this:
1. Right-click on the white window bar with ‘Home’ or an app name, and remove (it can be replaced later if wanted).
2.Right-click on the free space, then select ‘Add > Main Menu’ (the Ubuntu circle icon appears in the task bar), then close.
3.Click on this Main Menu icon, then select ‘System > Preferences > Sessions’. Unclick ‘Maximus’ and ‘Netbook Launcher’ (alternative name: ‘UME Desktop Launcher’) and ‘Ubiquity’, then close.
4.At the next login, you will find a clean GNOME desktop. Right-click on free space and select your favourite background

To remove the Easy Peasy information and splash screen in the boot dialogue:
1. Editing the grub menu list file. If you don’t know what this is and don’t know how to find it, don’t touch it; you can easily mess up the boot procedure. If you do edit the file, make a copy of the original version before you do this.
2.A simple hack to remove the splash logo with the lemon, which appears at various places is to (re)move the graphics file (or replace it with one of your own, with the same name – I have not investigated which scripts use the file):
/usr/share/backgrounds/easy-peasy-4.png

If you miss the Netbook Remix and want to return to it, re-click the items which were unclicked under ‘System > Preferences > Sessions’, and it will reappear at the next login; you can also replace the Easy Peasy info.

Installing Praat on Ubuntu
1. Download praat5100_linux_static.tar.gz into any of your folders
2. Change directory ('cd') into this folder
3. Perform these instructions in a terminal window:
tar zxvf praat5100_linux_static.tar.gz
sudo apt-get install praat [if you don't have it yet]
sudo mv praat /usr/bin [only after installing praat with apt-get]
4. Create a 'missing link' in order to repair the Praat error (the order is important):
sudo mkdir /usr/X11R6/lib/
sudo mkdir /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/
sudo cp /usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/
